In the National Natural Park “Synevyr”, which is located in the Mezhgorsky district of Transcarpathia (in the direction from the village of Mezhgorye to Sinevirskaya Polyana), operates the largest in Eastern Europe, the Center for the rehabilitation of brown bears. It began to be created in 2011 and until 2017 it was the only one in Ukraine.
The reserve is located on 12 hectares of mixed forest with mountain rivers and waterfalls. Here there are two dozen animals that were saved from the terrible conditions … each “clumsy” here has its own tragic story. The center is divided into two parts – a quarantine with an enclosure and a fenced forest, in which there is almost everything for the normal existence of animals. First time, being in quarantine, the bear should get used to other bears, get used to half-freedom, because an animal that has lived all life in a cage, it is difficult to adapt to new conditions. In the rehabilitation center, the bears are gradually returning to an approximate natural life.
The bears were given funny names here: Potap, Lyalya, Mishutka, Balu, Basya, Bubochka, Benya. And they are not bad at feeding – favorite seasonal goodies of bears – raspberries, blackberries and honey.
In the reserve we were told a few facts about bears. 1. In Ukraine there are no more than 300 of them. 2. Beat the average bear’s paw is 2 tons. 3. A bear smells a person for 17 kilometers, and, fearing it, tries to move away, so the first does not attack.
Synevyr bear reserve made a huge impression, this place will amaze any tourist and will not leave anyone indifferent.
